ITSO Conducts Fundamentals of IP and IP Management Seminar

The ITSO in CSU once again conducted an Intellectual Property Seminar with emphasis on Patent, Patent Search and IP Management for the R&D Researchers in the University headed by Dr. Rowena P. Varela, the Vice President for Research and Extension (VPRE) held at the Sprinkles Resort, Butuan City, Philippines last January 29, 2016.

Dr. Anthony M. Penaso, University President, opened the program with a special message to all participants.

The primary objective of the seminar was to allow the R&D Researchers to learn about the fundamentals of IP and to provide knowledge on how to protect their research outputs.

Among the participants were full-time researchers from the DOST's LIDAR Projects with permanent faculty members from the Main and Cabadbaran Campuses of the University.

Engr. Jeffrey T. Dellosa, ITSO Manager led the ITSO Team as Resource Speakers for this seminar-workshop. He was joined by Mr. Henson Dejarme, Mr. Kenneth Ciudad, and Dr. Rolyn Daguil. 

Topics discussed were:

  • Fundamentals on IP: Copyright
  • Patent and What's In It for the Academe?
  • Basics of Patent Search
  • Fundamentals of IP Management and Technology Commercialization

It was agreed that ITSO will assist R&D Researchers to help determine from the start of the researches of the potential of their work especially on the subjects they are working on. ITSO will also help evaluate the commercial aspect of any invention that may arise from their research activities.

Dr. Varela also emphasized that more seminars and trainings be conducted to equip researchers with proper knowledge on IP.
